SCANIN + APPCLICKPRINT

Visitor badge printing that customers can set up themselves

ScanIn partnered with AppClickPrint to add visitor badge printing without adding a complicated desktop print-server setup. The result is a guided experience that starts inside ScanIn and lets the customer connect an Android gateway with a QR code.

THE CHALLENGE

Make label printing feel like part of ScanIn

ScanIn gives organisations a straightforward QR-code visitor and contractor sign-in experience. When a visitor arrives, selected customers also need a physical badge printed at the site.

Adding that capability could have forced each customer to install and maintain print software on a desktop computer, share technical credentials or arrange an IT-assisted installation. ScanIn wanted badge printing to match the simplicity of its existing product: enable the feature, connect a printer and get on with welcoming visitors.

THE SOLUTION

Automatic provisioning behind one customer action

ScanIn created an AppClickPrint developer account and integrated the customer API. Whenever a ScanIn customer enables label printing, ScanIn creates the corresponding AppClickPrint customer automatically. There is no separate account-registration form for the customer and no AppClickPrint API key exposed to them.

From enabled to printing

AppClickPrint handles the local printer connection while ScanIn remains the product the customer knows.

01

Label printing is enabled in ScanIn

The customer chooses to use visitor badge printing from the ScanIn workflow.

02

ScanIn provisions the customer by API

ScanIn’s backend creates or identifies the matching customer in AppClickPrint and requests a short-lived onboarding session.

03

The customer scans a gateway QR code

An on-site staff member installs AppClickPrint Gateway on an Android phone or tablet, scans the temporary code and names the gateway. No developer credentials are shown.

04

The gateway discovers the printer

Available supported printers are returned to the onboarding flow, where the customer can select a printer and run a test print.

05

ScanIn receives the available printers

ScanIn checks setup status and retrieves the customer’s printer aliases through the API, ready for the customer to select for visitor badges.

THE BENEFIT

Hands-off for ScanIn. Approachable for its customers.

No duplicate signup

Customer provisioning happens behind the scenes when the feature is enabled.

No specialist installation

A staff member at the printer can connect the Android gateway using a temporary QR code.

Simple recovery

If a gateway device goes offline permanently, an authorised user can sign in another compatible Android device and reconnect printing.

The integration stays scalable. ScanIn can create customer environments, launch setup and retrieve printers programmatically as more customers enable badge printing.

Add printing to your application

Give customers a guided printer setup while your backend handles provisioning and print jobs through one API.
